This week in Year 4, we have been exploring place value up to 2,000. We have been developing our understanding of the thousands place and exploring how numbers can be represented in different ways. We used hundreds frames and number lines to identify and represent numbers, as well as practising different ways of saying numbers, such as 1,500 as “15 hundred” or “1 thousand 5 hundred.” We have been fantastic at explaining our thinking and using mathematical vocabulary to justify our answers.
We also put our place value skills to the test through a fun dice game, where we created numbers using four digits and challenged ourselves to make the smallest and greatest numbers possible. We enjoyed working collaboratively, discussing our strategies and explaining why the position of each digit changes the value of a number. It has been wonderful to see everyone becoming more confident when working with numbers up to 2,000!
