This week, Year 3 enjoyed a great trip to the Hackney Archives for a Black History Month walking quest! We explored local black heritage, music venues and historical sites across Dalston. In science, we investigated how fossils are made. We also celebrated National Poetry day by exploring a poem about the Amazon rainforest. We looked at some of Valerie Bloom’s poetry and discussed what we enjoyed about her performance style, before having a go at performing her poetry ourselves! We have also been writing letters to family members describing the events of the ‘Stone Age Boy’ book, using a range of adverbs. Take a look at Feng-Huang’s incredible writing:
Dear Family,
You wouldn’t believe what has happened! I was strolling when suddenly, I fell into a deep, dark place. When I woke up, I was in the Stone Age! Then at first light, I saw a mysterious girl, who carefully took me to her village. Afterwards, I met her kind family. Even though they couldn’t understand me, they kindly served me some delicious food and said “Eat up.” Later, I saw some of her family harshly gnashing two small chunks of flint stone to make a warm, crackling fire.
