To start our celebrations in light of Black History Month, Year 1 have been exploring the vibrant patterns and colours of traditional Kente cloth from Ghana. The children learnt about the symbolism behind particular colours that are used in Kente cloth and also discovered that it originated over 350 years ago. They then experimented with creating repeated patterns using a variety of shapes, lines and bright colours before learning the art of weaving, carefully threading paper over and under on their very own paper looms. To finish, they added colourful details to make each design unique. Take a look at some of their fantastic work!
