This week, SJSJ came together to celebrate Black History Month with a special whole-school assembly in our church. It was a wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate the learning that has been taking place across the school, recognising the achievements, contributions and rich cultural heritage of Black people throughout history and today.
Our Year 6 pupils played a particularly important role in leading the assembly. They confidently introduced the learning from each class, giving everyone a chance to hear about the fantastic work the children have been doing. We were also treated to some wonderful musical performances, including solo singing and whole-class songs, which helped make the assembly a truly memorable occasion.
The Year 6 children were fantastic role models throughout, demonstrating confidence, responsibility and leadership. Their support didn’t stop at the assembly, either! On the way to the church, they took the youngest members of our school under their wing, helping them make their very first journey there. They showed such kindness, care and patience, making sure our youngest pupils felt safe and supported.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6s for the way they represented SJSJ, both on stage and behind the scenes. They truly embodied our school values and showed that being a role model is about so much more than standing up in front of an audience – it is also about looking after others and leading by example. Well done, Year 6!
