Ethos & Vision

Our school’s vision is deeply rooted in the Bible, and in Jesus’ teaching. We have embedded one of Jesus’ greatest commandments into our school ethos, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. By treating others how we wish to be treated, we promote a school culture ingrained in mutual respect, understanding and compassion for those around us.

Our Vision

At St John and St James, our vision is rooted in the teachings of Jesus and his greatest commandment:

“Love your neighbour as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39)

We believe that every person is created in the image of God and is uniquely loved and valued. Guided by Christ’s example, we learn, journey and pray together each day, nurturing a school community where everyone is included, everyone is valued and everyone is thriving.

Learn Together

We learn together by creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where every child is known, accepted and encouraged to achieve their full potential. We celebrate each individual’s strengths and recognise that every child learns differently. Through collaboration, encouragement and high expectations, we support one another so that no learner is left behind.

Journey Together

We journey together as we grow academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. We celebrate the richness of our diverse community and help children develop the confidence, resilience and wisdom to make positive choices. Inspired by our Christian values, children are encouraged to care for one another, serve their community and look after the world around them.

Pray Together

We pray together through worship and reflection, strengthening our relationship with God and with one another. We nurture the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of every member of our community, encouraging compassion, forgiveness, hope and justice. Our shared Christian vision inspires us to support one another and to work together so that everyone can thrive.

Our Commitment

At St John and St James, loving our neighbour shapes everything we do. It inspires us to build a community where everyone is included, everyone is valued and everyone is thriving.

Core Christian Values

Each half term we focus our Values learning around one of the Core Christian Values. Children are encouraged to explore the different themes through a range of questions and discussions, which often happens during assemblies and throughout lessons in class.

The themes are as follows:

Peace ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.’ Matthew 5:9Justice ‘Learn to do right. Seek justice. ‘Isaiah 1:17Endurance ‘Christ gives me the strength to face anything. ‘Philippians 4:13
